Sideline Style: What I Wear on the Sidelines!

My fall fashion centers around the sidelines.

For fall, I have centered my wardrobe around a few key navy and forest green pieces in support of the La Costa Canyon Mavericks!

When I was looking for options, I ran across Newport Knits. They are an amazing female-owned business out of Newport Beach. I have worked on two different sweater options with them, the latest being a short sleeve end-of-summer option.

Here's what's in rotation for game days now.

The short sleeved Newport Knits sweater paired with shorts or jeans: I've been wearing a high-waisted pair of shorts — the Cicy Bell tweed shorts in green, wide-leg with front pockets, so there's actually somewhere to put my phone — with a loose 3/4-sleeve tunic, like the JomeDesign v-neck, also in green, so the whole thing reads coordinated instead of matchy.

For the nights I want it dressier: the STAUD Wells Dress in navy. One piece, nothing to coordinate, and it still lands in the school colors without trying too hard — my go-to when the sweater's staying home and I still want to look like I belong on the sideline.

And the part that actually decides the night: what's on my feet. You're standing on concrete or bleachers for hours, and comfort wins every time over how the shoes photograph.

  • Veja Rio Branco II Lite Sneakers — clean, low-profile, my pick when I want them to disappear under the dress.

  • Nike Pacific — more cushioned, for the nights we're parking far and walking in.

  • New Balance 327 — grey and gold, more personality than the others, for when I want the shoes doing some of the talking.

None of it's complicated. It's just proof that "school spirit" doesn't have to mean giving up on getting dressed.
