A Few New Pieces in the Living Room

Some rooms don't need a full renovation to feel new again — just the right pieces in the right spots.

We recently added three things that changed the whole feel of our living room: a pair of green velvet channel-tufted ottomans, a Martha Stewart London swivel chair in a soft, dusty blue linen, and a set of cordless picture lights over the artwork.

The Ottomans

The green velvet was a departure for us — this room leans neutral, with grays and blues throughout — but the channel-tufted texture and jewel tone give the coffee table area a little richness without overpowering it. They also do double duty as extra seating when the room fills up, which in our house is often.

The Swivel Chair

This one earns its keep. The slipcovered, skirted silhouette is soft and classic — no hard edges — and the swivel base means it can face the sectional for conversation or turn toward the windows for a quiet afternoon. The light blue tone pulls right from our existing palette, so it reads like it's always been there.

The Picture Lights

Above our framed flags, we finally added proper picture lighting — and the cordless kind, at that. No electrician, no rewiring, just an easy mount and a remote. They run for hours on a single charge and give the whole wall a gallery-like glow in the evening, which sounds like a small thing until you see the difference it makes after dark.

Small changes, but the kind that make a lived-in room feel considered again.
